This lens is a great addition to the P900. The camera by itself can take reasonably close photos; the problem is that the working distance is so short that the subject is too close to get any light on it. The 10x lens lets you have a few inches of working distance, better for nature still life close up. You have to experiment with zoom and physical distance for best results. As you zoom in, magnification increases, working distance increases, and the edges of the image become softer. Note the picture of the diamond ring, this was made by zooming in and then cropping out all but the central 1/3 of the picture.
