5Disc ID: VERBAT-IMe-000 Good stuff made by Verbatim
By David B. Minter
The Disc ID on these discs is VERBAT-IMe-000. That means Verbatim themselves actually made these discs. They did NOT farm these out to CMC, the worst optical media manufacturer. Verbatim often farms out to CMC. Their CD-R's, their Life series DVD-R and DVD+R, and their BD-RE are CMC. CMC DVD recordable media fail to burn 50% of the time. Of those that do burn, they fail about 50% of the time to pass a verify of burnt data. Of those that do verify, 50% of them are not recognized as playable in a stand alone player.

The DID on these discs is the same as in the 10 packs and in the 25 packs. I've been using those for almost 3 years now and I've yet to have one that failed to burn or failed to verify.

5What do we really know about optical media?
By Teddy Bear
I gave this five stars. Why? It burned without error. It read the files I tested out after burning. I'm happy. But that's not where it ends. What constitutes good and bad optical media, how should we judge the quality? If you're burning 50 GIGS of data, and it's not for blu ray video, chances are it's being used as archival data storage. It's being used in manner in which you want to access data many years from now. You could easily buy a USB drive, or external hard drive, but those do have a finite amount of read/write cycles; meaning they do "wear out".

So, if you're like me, you want something that will last decades. This is as close as it gets.

I give a five stars now, but where it really matters is how this disc will perform in 10 years from now. I have do have many discs (CD Data and DVD data) that are over 10 years old, and both still perform without error. But I hesitate to give this particular product 5 stars, because it's criteria for 5 stars won't be known for many years from now (at least for my needs).

Any optical media can burn with decent results with regard to not making a coaster, but how much of all optical media can stand the test of time? No too many people give reviews to tell that their disc is still perfect after many years. But to me, this is critical in whether a disc is good or bad.

5My Go-To Brand of Disk for Burning DVDs and Blu-Rays
By KR503
I will ONLY burn DVDs or Blu-rays with Verbatim disks (and I love being able to make a professional-looking label on these inkjet-able white-top disks). But Verbatim is my brand, period, just as Sandisk is my brand with memory chips. I find that to fairly reliably burn disks, and not get coasters, you have to 1. Turn off your connection to the internet. 2. Turn off your Virus Protection. 3. Turn off any other app or program that tries to access the internet on a regular basis 4. Close all your software 5. Set the burn speed a good two notches (if not more) below the MAXIMUM speed the disks you have can write at. You have to be patient when it's burning, but isn't the higher success rate worth it? 6. Turn off any screen saver you have that kicks in automatically. Then burn your disk. The QC on Verbatim is the most important piece of the puzzle. Yes, occasionally you get a bad disk, but only very occasionally.
