5Excellent accessory for the Canon EOS 80D
By Eagle Vision
I recently acquired a Canon EOS 80D, and I wanted the option for more battery life. The batteries already have a long life but this will double it. There are two separate trays that fit into the base. One tray allows for AA batteries and the other for the LP-E6N batteries. The AA battery adapter is a decent emergency or backup option when all of your batteries have drained but the life is much shorter. The LP-E6N works much better.

Apart from the longer battery life, this grip gives you versatility to hold in the vertical position. It has the same functionality as your standard shutter, focusing buttons, shutter speed adjustment, zoom, etc. The tradeoff is size and added weight.

It fits perfectly into the base of the 80D. The compartment cover of the 80D fits onto the side of the batter interface so you don't lose the cover. The base has a port for attaching to a tripod. It is well balanced and very comfortable.

Battery life has been as good as OEM, and the price is more competitive.

If your skeptical about using a third party accessory, well don't be. This works perfectly for my camera.

5So Good at such a GREAT Price!
By The Good Doctor!
Let me first say, I was VERY suspicious to order this because of the price difference over the Canon unit. I was also suspicious because it was not only much less expensive than the Canon Battery Grip, but it ALSO came with Two Batteries and an extra tray for use with AA batteries as an emergency backup.

I am an amateur photography enthusiast and I own a Canon EOS 70D which I use with a BlackRapid two camera one shoulder harness and a variety of lenses. I also use a Speedlight 600-EX Flash.

In looking at the Canon Battery Grip side by side with the DSTE one cannot visually discern any difference in materials or workmanship. In TRYING them both, there is no discernible difference which would account for the massive difference in price. The DSTE-Pro BG-E14 Vertical Battery Grip plus two extra batteries is an incredible deal!!! I am 6'3" and 250lbs so I have larger than normal Shrek hands. As such, having read comments about one needing to have large hands in order to deftly utilize the Battery Grip securely, I actually disagree. Despite my big mitts, this battery grip is VERY easy to handle!!! I am shooting an 80th Birthday Party indoor at night with the Speedlight, so I will eat up a lot of battery power over the two hours. I need lots of battery power, so the batteries I already had, and the ones that come with this Vertical Battery Grip are a welcomed addition to this already great deal! In using the DSTE VBG, I am amazed at the price point relative to the Canon version. What a GREAT deal! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this or to buying it again!

4Large grip provides plenty of power and a great price
By daniel_leavitt2000
I bought this battery grip for my Canon 80D. I was looking for both longer running time and shutter buttons for portrait shots. As others have pointed out, this grip costs less than one third the price of the official Canon part and includes two extra batteries.

Materials are very nice. The grip looks and feels like the Cannon grip. The casing is the same matte plastic and the rubberized grip matches the feel and look of the camera. Inside the battery compartment you will find a metal frame along the bottom, a plastic honeycomb supports the rest of the grip. The metal sub frame is attached directly to the tripod mount for a secure fit without flex. The battery tray does not appear to be weather sealed.

Buttons form and function closely follow the Canon equivalents on the camera. Feedback is just a bit softer than on the camera. With less “pop” to them, but not what I would call mushy. The shutter button has a nice double click. The jog dial is feels a bit hollow, almost as if it has an echo. It is also not rubberized like the one on the camera.

The grip comes with a plastic pin cover. There is a slot to hold the OEM battery door while the grip is installed. I really with the insert that goes into the camera battery slot could be collapsed when not in use. I am worried that it may snap off if not on the camera. The Canon battery grip suffers from the same issue, however.

Battery trays are glossy plastic. I would prefer matte as scratches would not show up as easily. The contacts are bronze and the batteries install with a satisfying click.

Once installed on the camera, I would the grip to be a tad uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time. It just wasn’t built with small hands in mind. Again, this is also an issue with the Canon battery grip, and something I was aware of before purchase. For me, the extra battery capacity and portrait shutter buttons meant I could leave a lot of gear at home when out and about.

And those batteries. The two included batteries are rated at 2600mAh compared to 1865mAh on the Canon battery. If the capacity is accurate, the battery grip may provide close to three times the power than the OEM battery provides.

Overall, a very good product for the money.
