Quality, accuracy and functionality. That is the main difference between this and every other HOTAS under $400. If you want to know why, read on but the short and sweet is, if you want the best HOTAS that gives you 6 degrees of movement under $400 this is it. You can buy the Thrustmaster Warthog and a set of high quality pedals for over $400 but the jump in price doesn’t justify the difference you get IMO but you could go that route.
Now as to how we got here, Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous and DCS have revived the market for these HOTAS setups. For the longest time there weren’t any new HOTAS setups on the market because there were no games to warrant the investment by the companies that make them. This has all changed and this is the first HOTAS setup developed from the ground up for the games people want them for. The joystick is a redesign of the T.16000 that has been available but that didn’t need changing at all, while the throttle is all new and thoroughly thought out. The built quality is excellent and the size is appropriate so it can fit on your desk along with your mouse and keyboard. The weight distribution is spot on so it stays put while you’re playing and everything is pinpoint accurate. I used a X52 an X52 Pro and own a X55, they are ALL overpriced right now. If you were looking at them a year ago, they were all AT LEAST $50 cheaper than what they are now and they were overpriced THEN for the products you get. Saitek just jacked up the prices because people were starting to buy them. I put CH products in this category as well after seeing a teardown of their HOTAS; it’s higher quality than Saitek but still overpriced. With Thrustmaster you’re getting what you pay for. Bottom line, under $400 there is no competition for the quality, accuracy and functionally you get with this HOTAS.

3Stick: core functionality 5/5. Throttle: core functionality 3/5
By John
Stick:
The quality of this stick is in its weight, the joystick itself, the hat switch, and the trigger.

- Still feels fairly smooth after a few months of occasional use (I haven't added any lubricant).
- Nice and tight with very little dead zone.
- Heavy and solid-feeling, with decent springiness on the stick. I would prefer more tension or a progressive increase if I had it mounted, but it's perfect for sitting loose on your desk. It will drift very little under the weight of your hand in the home position, and yet you can hold it at an angle indefinitely, probably. I don't know because I had to use the bathroom.
- Hat switch and trigger have good, sharp tactile feedback. I was disappointed to discover what everybody else already knew: A hat switch is not the same thing as a pressure-sensitive thumb stick.
- The slider (trimmer? I don't know my terminology) feels very smooth, but with enough wobble and flex that I would be careful about accidentally side-swiping it.
- The other three buttons on the top of the stick and the two six-button panels on the base have very poor, sloppy action; the front three on the base on either side click like you're pushing a cork into a bottle. Actually, there is no clicking going on at all in the far outer front one. Very unnerving, but you don't really care because you're shopping for a HOTAS setup, aren't you?

Throttle:
Just sitting here and idly fondling the throttle, I can find three very comfortable hand positions, even one for when I'm melting into my chair with the controller way up high on my desk. The designers did an amazing job with this controller's layout.

- The rocking wing on the front is great! Is this a standard component on all throttle setups? I don't know, but it's great as either booster/reverse thrust or as a component of the steering system, and within easy reach.
- The thumb stick (index finger stick) is decent with only a little wobble. The two-way rocker switch and two orange buttons for middle finger, ring finger, and pinkie are well-placed if you have your index finger on the thumb stick, although I would have preferred to have the thumb stick on the right side of the throttle, where the hat switches are.
- Speaking of which, all three hat-switches are well-placed and easy to get to, and they have the same crisp response as the hat switch on the flight stick.
- The wheel on the left side of the stick feels way out of the way, but I actually kind of like its rubbery, stiff action. Very precise. The wheel is made of plastic, not rubber, just to clarify. If you let your hand slide down to the left, abandoning the thumb stick, then the wheel is just right for your pinkie.
- All three orange buttons have decent action (even the one on the right side, down near the bottom).
- Ah, but the most important feature: The throttle itself. I'm not terribly impressed. Maybe I just need to lubricate it a little, but it would stick and then jump from the day I bought it, and now I can almost scoot the whole thing across my desk without budging the throttle unless I push down at the same time, despite the control's considerable weight. I might try to lubricate the rails tomorrow - maybe it came from the factory dry..? If I can get it buttery smooth, this review will jump to 4/5.

I got this set for Star Citizen. I have yet to download the latest 30GB patch, but as of December 2016 there seemed to be some elements of the controller not recognized by the game. Might be I just didn't set everything up right in the controller's interface.

4Personally I find this to be a good mid range hotas
By Arkman
Personally I find this to be a good mid range hotas, it's not without its flaws but it isn't claiming g to be the best of the best, it was meant to be a mid price range hotas and for the price it's the best I've seen, construction is plastic but it's actually pretty strong, the trigger is a bit on the cheap side feeling wise but it works well enough, the joystick is fantastic for any space flight Sim, I use this primarily for elite dangerous and star citizen, the throttle leaves a bit to be desired some the button placements are honestly not to great I've gotten used to the placements and adjusted some settings to be more to my liking, it works well but you do on occasion find that the joystick on the throttle doesn't return to center so you get a bit of movement, but adding a small deadone solves that issue and it rarely had occurred thus far I've used it for over 100 hrs so far, and haven't had any failures, for some I might suggest just getting the joystick or and maybe a ch products throttle, but that's just if you have to have a more traditionally setup throttle in terms of location of buttons and hats, anyways it's a good product for the price, especially the joystick.
