Customer Reviews
Most helpful customer reviewsPros
+ Clean industrial design with detailed display and controls under cover (if that is your thing)
+ Surprisingly robust and even sound given its relatively low RMS power rating
+ Does a great job with Dolby ATMOS material
+ Audyssey Platinum Suite (room correction with detailed time domain correction) – this makes a huge difference in our complex listening environments and an exponential difference when combined with ATMOS
+ Handles FLAC and other lossless files well
+ Fully supports HDMI 2.0 with the hardware to support High Density Copy Protection 2.2
Cons
- Street price in the US is high – the Denon X6200 is arguably a better receiver for most applications and can be had for at least 100USD less from certified retailers despite having the same MSRP (this is not true in other countries where the Marantz name does not have the same history)
- Plastic buttons for detailed settings feel cheap – D+M reuses the same components across most of the upper end line, I do not know why they do not cast a standard aluminum button face to use across all of them
- Like the rest of the D+M line, the ability to display the active channels in both input and output signals simultaneously is gone from the front panel
- 125W RMS per channel is just enough for our application – the Denon 140W offerings do have noticeably more usable power (the Marantz does seem to sound more robust though when not pushed to its limits)
- Some dedicated Marantz owners have stated that the SR7010 lacks the signature Marantz combination of warmth and clarity (particularly on the owners forum at AVSForum.com). I have not experienced this as it is both warmer and clearer than the non-Marantz AVRs and separates that I have spent time with, but I am adding this as it is a very important consideration for those that love the traditional Marantz sound.
- (added 2/21/2016) With video conversion enabled (which is required to have a volume bar displayed), the SR7010 reduces the color space to 4:2:2. This is a huge issue for those who use HDMI switching on their AVR (most) and expect GUI overlay and the full 4:4:4 color space (anyone spending this much money on an AVR).
