Most helpful customer reviewsThe good:
• It's really small. It can mount behind your rear view mirror and you'll hardly know it's there.
• Video quality is surprisingly good. In reasonable light colors are true and the picture is quite sharp. Night video is on par with other good quality dashcams – not bad, but you won’t be reading any license plates.
The bad:
• Like all dashcams, you need to run wires around your windshield to the power source (cigarette lighter or fuse box). That’s awkward, and I’ve never been able to do it as cleanly as I would like.
• Despite what one reviewer said, the manual is neither clear nor complete. It’s particularly weak when explaining how to hook the wiring up to the fuse box (which is almost essential – see next comment).
• It has no internal battery. This is a plus, in that your car is exposed to extremes of heat and cold, all battery-killing conditions. But it means it forgets all your settings (including the date) when you turn the car off, unless you’ve wired it to the fuse box.
• It gets disturbingly warm, even in cold weather. I worry about component life.
• There is no on-device display, so to set the date/time you need an external display that takes a composite video (yellow RCA) plug. The only device I have like this is a TV – I’m supposed to bring my TV into the car to set the date?
• The power connector is proprietary – it has to be, as it carries three power leads (gnd, ignition, battery) plus video. But it is not very robust, and I worry what happens when it breaks.
In summary, this is a compact dashcam with better than average video quality but with tradeoffs that make it less than the perfect product.
