5Strangely Worthwhile
By Nerd Alert
I was a complete skeptic before using an egg cooker. Eggs aren't hard to boil! I was so, so wrong to dismiss it. It is now one of my most used gadgets and has made me more of an egg fanatic.

Yes, boiling eggs isn't difficult. However, it is not so simple and fast that I would make the one or two that I would need for a meal on a regular basis. With this device, I can not only make them quickly in small quantities with essentially no cleanup, but get them exactly right every time. Like most people, I've adapted to softer eggs over time. Getting the yolk and white to the right consistencies can be tricky in boiling water, but it's consistent and as easy as pouring in water and turning on the switch with an egg cooker.

Oh, and ignore the predefined lines on the cup. The water at them tends to overcook the eggs. Experiment until you find what you like, and remember that mark instead.

My favorite part, though, is poaching. Again, possible in boiling water, but difficult to get right every time. It's great because there is no egg to shell and the result is delicious and visually appealing.

I've gone from eating eggs rarely to thinking of them with excitement when I go grocery shopping. A quick snack (or small meal) is to soft poach an egg and eat it on rice. I could eat that every day and never get tired of it.

So, while an egg cooker may seem silly, if you make a little room in your heart for it, you might have a new favorite gadget.

5Best purchase ever! No more guesswork!
By elkile
I cannot say enough good things about this product. Like many other reviewers, I agonized over the need to add another appliance to the kitchen, especially when I can simply boil water. For me though, with no stove or oven, boiling water is a project as I have to take out my big crockpot and my induction burner. I just wanted to make eggs easily. I am broke, so I eat a lot of boiled eggs. They are cheap, quick, easy and filling. I found this device made my life so much easier! I always mess up the timing on my eggs. I also forget they are on the stove, but that is another matter.... I found with the little measuring cup I can put in just the right amount of water for the type of eggs I want and the little machine does it perfectly every time! The eggs are easy to de-shell, the shells just slide off, and they are soft and yummy every time. The first hardboiled egg I made I could not believe was fully cooked because it was not as hard as rock... it was cooked to perfection, but still soft and I found this to be very appetizing. I cannot recommend this enough! If you have kids this is the perfect way to quickly make breakfast. The clean up is a cinch and the machine is small. I also love the poacher, that is a bonus! I do not know what I ever did without this little device! The measuring cup can be hard to read, but that is something a nice black Sharpie pen can fix. Enjoy and Bon Appetit!

5Love this egg cooker!
By Lovisa
It took me a long time to justify buying an electric egg-cooker, given that I could save money by sticking with the basic old-fashioned four (eggs, water, heat, and a pot). I purchased an Oster some ten years back and was pleasantly surprised at the convenience and ease of use. I liked being able to go ahead with other tasks and not have to monitor the eggs on the stove. The Oster on its last legs now, I went hunting for a new one and found this Hamilton Beach on Amazon. There are a few tiny issues with it but nothing to convince me to give it less than 5 stars.

1- The water cup markings are hard to read but that was quickly resolved by rubbing a marker over the grooves. (correction: that was my plan but the grooves are on the inside so I just marked over the lines and numbers on the outside of the cup with an ultra-fine sharpie and problem solved)
2- Would have liked an automatic shut-off but consider that a trade-off for the excellent price on this cooker.
3- When I removed the cooked eggs and tray, I was startled to see a strange residue on the heating plate......ectoplasm? Special effects for a remake of The Blob? Should I be calling Ghost Busters? I decided it was likely a result of hard water components and errant egg white. I spritzed the surface with white vinegar, gave it a quick wipe with a paper towel, and it was gone.

The egg tray is plastic and easier to lift out where the Oster was metal and had a bigger "oh-ouch-hot" factor. The eggs cooked to perfection! After a fast dip in ice water, the hard-boiled variety peeled so quick and clean, they might as well have had zippers. The timer signal was loud enough to get my attention. The components of the unit were easy to clean. While I don't expect appliances to last as long as they once did and have no idea what the life span of this cooker will be, I would not hesitate to buy it again.
