If you're looking at this item, you probably did the same thing I did. The printer jammed, and I pulled the paper from the top which ruined the soft foam roller on the fuser. Very poor design in my opinion. My printer was basically new, had probably printed less than 200 sheets and I thought "dang, I ruined it" so after doing some research I found that it's a fairly easy part to change if you are at all mechanically inclined and was thrilled to find it here at a good price. Put the unit in and now it's as good as new. I think the manual tells you to be careful about taking out jams, but I didn't read that part (shame on me) but at least they make the part available for those of us who do not follow directions! :-)

As others have noted, the symptom of a failed fuser unit in a Brother printed is wrinkled or dimpled paper. When my HL-3170 developed these symptoms after about 20k pages, I ordered this unit as a replacement. It took me a while to replace it the first time. I strongly recommend that you find some good videos on youtube (they are there), and also TAKE PICTURES before each step, because some of the plastic pieces are tricky to put back if you don't remember their orientation. Be careful pulling apart the white electrical plug on the far left as you face the back of the printer. I used a small screwdriver to gently wedge apart the plug from the side. Under no conditions should you pull on any wires directly. After replacement of the failed fuser, this new unit worked perfectly. Later, I was able to repair the failed fuser by replacing the fried rollers (that's another story).

I couldn't figure out what was wrong with my barely 2-year old Brother MFC 9340; pages were printing with horrible creases down the middle with brick colored plastic pieces stuck to it and though it's a laser printer, the images that were printing were smudged. After reading online that this could be a fuser problem, I bit the bullet and bought this fuser. It came the next day and I googled "how to install fuser in brother mfc", and voila! A 4 min youtube video explained how to remove the old fuser, which, by the way, was in pieces, and install the new one. It took me all of 10 min and it's now printing out beautiful color copies again!
