5Fantastic laptop, don't accept backlight bleed
By JP209
Went through two exchanges with Amazon before receiving a perfect one. There are QC issues with this laptop (2017 FHD model) concerning backlight bleed, dead pixels, warped chassis, and loose LCD bezel at the bottom of the screen. Potential buyers should know that Razer uses two LCD suppliers in the 2017 Full HD Blade. AU Optronics and LG. Every unit I've tried (from other retailers aside from Amazon) that used the AUO panel had a combination of dead pixels, dust specs, bad backlight bleed, and a heavy green / yellow tint out of the box. This is par for the course for anything AUO, same issues plague their high refresh gaming IPS monitors.

In fairness, my replacement had an LG screen and one half of the screen was a different hue than the other half, really distracting and I returned it.

My 3rd and current Blade also has an LG screen and it is completely perfect. Zero backlight bleed.

I experience no throttling or overheating during stress testing; all 4 CPU cores stay at 3.4ghz turbo clock when under load at the same time. A slight undervolt on the CPU makes temperatures even cooler which is great.

The biggest perk of this 2017 version compared to earlier iterations is that both fans turn completely OFF during idle or office type use. The fans don't spin at lowest rpm as some people mistakenly state on forums, they are completely off and the laptop is dead silent as a result.

When doing office work in power saving mode at 50% brightness I easily get 6+ hours of battery life. Incredible for such a powerful laptop.

When you get a good one, I feel the Blade is the most versatile thin and light laptop on the market given its looks, size, build quality, ports, and performance. When you get a good one this laptop is no doubt 5/5 stars and worth every dollar if you value power and performance in a really good looking small package.

Don't put up with a horrible AUO panel if you receive one. You are lucky if you receive a defect free AUO Blade. This is a $2000 laptop and I demand quality components.

***Update 4/15/2017*** For those of you who don't like the Killer wireless card it is very easy to replace it with an Intel card instead. I replaced mine with an Intel 8260 card. Download the Intel 8260 drivers and remove Killer drivers before swapping the cards. All you need is a quality T5 screwdriver, pop off the bottom cover and replace the WiFi card. Be sure to re-attach the two wires onto the Intel card, they should snap into place when done properly. Replace bottom cover, done. My ping times on my home WiFi network are down to 1-3ms.

***Update 5/3/2017*** If you are having issues with the Windows 10 creators update (random sleep mode, BSOD, odd glitching) there are a couple of things you should try. First and foremost update the nVidia graphics drivers to the most recent. The newest ones address some potential issues. Second if you have a Samsung SSD (which all of the Blades ship with so far) download the Samsung NVMe driver from the Samsung website and install it over the standard Microsoft driver. Since doing these updates I've had zero stability issues.

Also I undervolt my CPU -.100mV and it has worked out great. When running OCCT benchmark my CPU core max is 80 degrees. Considering the size and thinness of the Blade, this is fantastic. It also slightly boosted GPU benchmark performance, perhaps due to more power headroom.

***Update 8/4/2017*** Blade is still running as good as new and I've had zero issues. Successfully modded my BIOS to unlock the voltage so that I can undervolt through the BIOS and not software. Also disabled PCI-E ASPM which allows the GPU to perform as it should.

1Zero Customer Service - Don't waste your time with this company
By Amin
The laptop itself is not the issue, Razer as a company seems unwilling or unable to fix things in a timely manner. This is NOT a cheap purchase, as a customer, you've spent time and money on a laptop you expect to last you for a while. If your laptop STOPS working after 7 DAYS - with no spills, no falls, nothing, and Razer tells you that it's a motherboard issue - that itself warrants a huge apology.

If it takes Razer more than 2 weeks to tell you that they DO NOT HAVE ANY MOTHERBOARDS LEFT - that is unacceptable. I don't need any heartache in my life, and I certainly don't need to have my time wasted, after I've spent $2000+ on a faulty laptop.

2Not for Business Users. Heed the warnings of myself and others. Look elsewhere or purchase with expectation of issues.
By Eyedol
Not for Business Users. Heed the warnings of myself and others. Look elsewhere or purchase with expectation of issues.

I should have listened to the stories but since I did not heed the warning of others, here is my review to perhaps to provide warning or help you with your purchasing decision.

I purchased this system for one reason, form factor with capability of occasionally gaming. I purchased this laptop primarily for business use because it had a TPM which allows me to take advantage of Bitlocker in Windows to encrypt my drive. I occasionally travel internationally and want the ability to game and not lug around my gaming laptop for the trip.

I read the reviews as you are now and took note of the myriad of reviews indicating multiple issues:
-Critical Hardware Failures within First Year
-Poor Support
-Screen Issues

Some people say the laptop is great and I often found their reviews were posted very soon after purchase. The more seasoned reviews painted a much darker picture of the Razer Blade.

With this information and knowledge I decided to take the risk and make the purchase. I thought to myself that the people with issues were just the unlucky few and that hopefully I'll "get a good one". However with this in mind, I anticipated that I would have an issue with this device at some point so I spent the extra money and got a +3 year warranty including accidental damage along with my purchase through Amazon. The factory warranty from Razer in my opinion sucks for such a high end laptop and the fact they offer no in house warranty extension options that really make a difference was also an area of concern for me.

I figured I would keep my current business laptop as a backup just in case something didn't work and I had to send the Razer Blade off for service. My previous laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad that is still in like new condition while being almost 4 years old. I point out the condition of my Lenovo Thinkpad because I baby my laptops, no scratches or dings, never dropped, etc. I only purchased the accidental damage on the Razer Blade because my international travel requirement has increased and I figured it was cheap insurance "just in case".

The Razer Blade worked fine and as expected for a few months. I gamed on it 1 time for about 30 minutes and the rest of the time it's been 5/6 day a week business use every day. During my gaming session I noted things that other reviewers had, the fans are extremely noisy, you're not going to be able to sit in a room gaming and the people around you not look at you like you've got a portable vacuum cleaner in front of you. It's THAT noisy. I recommend you watch some youtube video reviews if you're curious exactly how noisy it gets. In a nutshell, if you think you'll be able to discretely sit at a desk and do some gaming on a current game during your "lunch break" in an office and people NOT notice, you will be gravely mistaken if you buy this laptop.

During the begininning of my 3rd month of use I noticed that the laptop would occasionally "hard freeze" where nothing would work but if I closed the laptop screen and allowed it to go to sleep, then resumed from sleep, it would continue working. This happened sporadically but I noticed it happened more frequently any time I did something CPU intensive. Initially I chalked it up to some driver or Windows issue causing it.

Yesterday I used the system for more than 12 hours and had several of these hard freeze events but the system appeared to resume normally each time. I left my laptop running overnight on my desk and returned to it this morning in a frozen state. I attempted to get the system to resume with no success so I resorted to a power cycle of the system. Upon power cycling the system I found it now hangs at the system post screen and does not boot any further.

I work in IT for a living so replacing system boards and other hardware on laptops is not an issue for me. After the system hung at post screen, I began troubleshooting the system. I shut it down, removed the bottom cover and disconnected the internal battery and power, waited a few minutes, reconnected everything and powered the system back up. No change or resolution to the issue. I tried booting off a USB Drive, different NVME SSD, everything possible without Razer parts being involved. No success.

I left the system hung at the post screen for an hour to see if it would do anything, no effect. CPU Fans weren't spinng so CPU got quite hot during this test.

Off to the Razer Support product registration page I go to register the product. I fill out all the information required and register it within my profile, then contact Warranty Support via Chat which I learned is 7 days a week (very nice surprise to learn). TIP: Don't throw away your box because product registration requires a Razer Part Number which is found nowhere else except the box of the laptop.

After confirming my issue, and registration details, the first thing Razer Support does is ask me for the same product information I just entered into the product registration site. So I reply with all the information required and proceed to answer the questions presented to me. Razer Support runs me through a couple of tests that I had already completed but for the sake of Razer Support doing their job, I went back through what the requested, No change to the issue.

Razer Support then asks me some questions that make no sense. My reported issue was the system hangs at post and hangs at post when entering recovery mode. After confirming all of this with Razer Support, they then ask me if I can get to the desktop... lol. I explain to the Razer Support person that since the system doesn't boot and hangs at post screen, there is no desktop to get to.

Razer Support then repeats everything I've reported and we've covered back to me asking me to confirm what details that have been identified. So I redundantly confirm everything we've covered thus far, a 2nd time. Razer Support asks me if I would like to proceed with an RMA, I say yes, they ask for purchase details from here, I provide a copy of the Amazon.com invoice.

...After this Razer Support asks me to create a VIDEO of the issue and upload it to YouTube as additional details to the problem. Surprised to hear this request, I ask if this is a requirement for me to do and was told it was not required. I declined to fulfill this additional request by Razer Support.

Razer Support informs me that the video would not be required and then asks me if I need anything else.

You heard that right... we went straight from confirming registration details, to troubleshooting an issue to "Yes, I want an RMA" to "Anything else"? -- As you can imagine my next question was Are we proceeding with an RMA? Where is the RMA information?

Razer Support informs me that I'll receive the RMA information via e-mail but they do not provide a timeframe as to when I will receive this information.

As of the writing of this review, a review that I started writing at the time that initiated chat with Razer Support, I still don't have an RMA # or details regarding my RMA. I did receive a Case number regarding my incident after I ended chat with Razer Support.

If you have read this far, I would like to close this review with my list of Pro's, Con's, and General thoughts regarding my purchase that was made less than 90 days ago.

PRO:
-Razer Blade Form Factor -- Similar to older MacBook Pro designs, it's great and I love that about this piece of equipment. This was the single largest driving factor in my initial purchase decision.
-TPM -- My 2nd most important feature as I primarily use this laptop for business use.

CON:
-Keyboard Function keys -- the fact that the function keys like !@#$% and ;'., don't light up with the rest of the keyboard make it impossible to use in the dark or low light situations. Want to change your screen brightness or use another function key in the dark that you don't specifically know which one it is? Good luck if you don't have another light source.
-Keyboard lighting -- The keyboard lightning is application driven and not hardware driven so if you can't login to Windows and run the Razer software, you cannot control the keyboard backlight at all. When traveling I sometimes just want a low static backlight on my keyboard similar to that of my Lenovo ThinkPad so I can see the keys I need to.
-Fan Noise: As listed in my review, fan noise while gaming is atrocious. It sounds like a mini dust buster.
-Fingerprint magnet: You'll want a Dbrand Skin or something similar if you buy this laptop.

Closing thoughts or points:
-Knowing what I know now, would I have made this purchase again? Absolutely not, I was closely eyeballing another manufacturers laptop of similar design, Aorus and I chose the blade because of my primary desire of form factor for my primary business use.
-Will I use my old ThinkPad until this unit comes back from RMA? Yes I will but I'm not going to wait around for the RMA repaired laptop to fail on me again in a critical time of need. This Razer blade failed on a Sunday when I was at home, I'd be screwed if it failed on me at a critical period and I no longer trust Razer's ability to produce reliable hardware.

In closing I want to stress to those of you out there considering this laptop as a primary system for business use. My advice is to avoid it for this purpose. If you're buying this as a casual on the go gaming system and can afford the down time for repairs, this might be the laptop for you but otherwise business users should avoid this laptop.

I really was all in for this laptop, even purchased a fancy Dbrand skin that I'm now going to have to remove before I send this off for repairs, this Dbrand Skin probably won't survive the transition and I'm not going to buy another one when I get the replacement. This Razer Blade I'm sending back for RMA/Repair doesn't even have any dust on the fan blades, it's that clean. Sadly, I'm probably just going to Ebay this thing when I get it back and cut my loss of time and money on the extra warranty if I can't get a refund on that.

Hope this helps you with your purchase decision. RIP my Razer Blade.

4Great set! Not perfect, but great!
By Amazon Customer
I purchased this set on tuesday and after a few days I am going to do a short review. I will update next week after I have had more time with the settings.

Overall it is a very good set. Picture is great, features are great and it looks awesome mounted on my wall. I like the minimal design, I like the minimal remote as well, even though most people seem to be upset there isn't a keyboard. The only function button on the TV itself is a small power button on the rear of the set, near the HDMI ports, for turning it on and off. I am fine with that, as I have several remotes that program and I don't plane on "Losing" the remote like some reviewers are worried about. (see: too lazy to look for it). here's a couple of categories:

Design: 5/5
The bezel is thin, and sexy. The set itself not thick depth-wise, but not too thin either. It weighs about 55 pounds and is easy to move around. The Vizio badging is in the bottom right corner, and is very minimal and classy. I'm so glad they no longer do the lit up Vizio emblems. The screen itself has a matte finish, and hides glare definition, but no all the glare. If you have an open window directly across from it, it will show. But at least it only shows as a glare, not defined images. This should be expected, and the matte screen hels a lot.

Picture 5/5
The picture is outstanding. I'm talking overall picture here, not the clear motion and added bells and whistles, I'll get to that later. As for the picture, each preset color/contrast setting is done very well. I primarily use the VIVID setting, as it is the brightest, and the colors just pop on the screen. HD content is phenomal. This is what 1080p was designed for. I'm talking true 1080p content. Not HD ota channels, and not netflix over Wifi, (i'll explain in a minute.) I'm talking blu ray discs, or native 1080p video files direct on USB drives. It looks phenomenal. We watched Noah and Malifecent on the USB drive in 1080 format, and it was ultra realistic, and the colors were amazing. All the settings help each scene or movie type look better. Let's understand one thing though, you cannot just run the complete factory settings on ANY TV. You have to adjust them for your living room, for your movies, and for your liking. This applies to all televisions. They are NOT iphones. They don't set themselves up. They have basic general settings, and they look fine, but to get it to look as good as they do in the store or online, you need to make some adjustments. If you're making a 1000+ dollar investment, you should learn how to use it. Not all the settings or features are for everybody. That brings me to the next topic

Picture add ons 3/5
Don't get me wrong, I know somebody likes the clear motion stuff, I just don't like it very much. That being said, I;m basing my score on it's functionality on this set, not my preference. Clear motion works amazing with native 1080p content, at the proper frame rate. That means Blu ray, USB video files, Ps4 content (except for FPS games) it runs clear and looks good. I have my PS4 wired with an ethernet, and the non native 1090p streaming app videos look good too, but any streaming 1080 videos that rely on bandwidth for their resolution it just looks cheap like a soap opera and all the defects are put on larger display. While I understand this is an overall Wifi issue, it is more prevelant because of the clear motion, and it just isn't there yet in terms of making the picture look better. If the processor somehow could detect settings and slow itself down, it'd be much better. As for video games, in 1080p at 30fps destiny looks amazing normally, but the clear motion caused so much clipping and dizziness it was unplayable. Do not expect to play high frame rate games at 1080p with clear motion. The jagging and clipping is brought out even more, because the processor thinks you are missing frames and adds frames where they aren't there. Same thing goes with the black detailer and the noise reduction engine. Anytime the signal coming in is questionable (high framte rate, low bandwidth streaming on wifi) you will notice pixelation and blockiness. It's not the TV, its the data and the technology. It's trying to make up for missing information, and it just doesn't work. I gave this a lower score as a result of the technology itself, still not being there. To be fair I haven't seen it work properly across all platforms with ANY TV, even the hgih end sets. AS for the local dimming feature, I notice the blacks look very deep and dark, but I don't have anything to compare them to as I came from a plasma set that had the same deep blacks as this set. The contrast on this set is phenomenal.

Video Games 5/5
Once I tweaked the settings, raised the framerate and changed the contrast settings, this TV actually makes my PS4 games look BETTER. The ms delay is unnoaticable. This is me coming from High end Samsung plasma with almost no delay, and moving to an LED and this latency is EVEN BETTER. You just have to remember to turn off clear motion, and turn off film mode, turn on game mode, and adjust the frame rate setting to HIGH. Advanced warfare looks real. Destiny looks like a CGI movie being played, and its insane how vivid and clear the colors are. Blacks are intense and deep too. Once the settings are correct, there is no clipping at all, and its playing at 30fps the whole time. This is only possible with an ethernet connection, I wouldnt risk it with a Wifi connection unless you're playing a game that isn't online based.

Apps 2/5
Here's where it goes bad. Vizio apps have always gotten the job done, but not been flashy. While on this set they certainly still do, they are starting to feel aged. The app button is nice, and scrolling through the wheel (although slow) it has all the apps a few presses away. What concerns me in this category is that they have a netflix button, an Amazon button, ....and an Iheart radio button? Who needs that at one press? Ever? It's 2015 and the third button should ALWAYS be a HULU button. If not, then just give us stickers with the remote and let us program the buttons ourselves. I'm still not sure if you can or can't program each one, I'll update if that changes. As for the apps themselvs, they fell just like the console apps on PS4 or Xbox, and are slightly better than the versions available on Roku. The app list however.... is much to be desired. No WWE network, No FxNow, No Mlb.tv, No Sunday Ticket, and lastly, NO web Browser. It also has no current option for "throwing" or "casting" from your mobile device, which is something I think they should start adding to these sets. The app fucntions themselves render using the app menu over my Ps4 fairly useless, at least until I get an ethernet cable ran to my TV now too. I have a gaming router, and it doesn't matter where you are or who you are, wifi is not better than a wire. Streaming varies on signal strength and everything from cell phones to microwaves can screw up your signal at any time. One other thing I'm having issue with, the netflix app, whenever it goes on to the next episode after it plays one, the next episode comes up and it puts it in a PIP window in the top left. If i pause, the netflix menu is still full screen, but the picture image is in the top left. Weird. I'm certain its the app, not the set, because it only happens to netflix.

Compatibiliy 5/5
This set plays all the video files i have on my network drive, and works with every connection I have hooked up to it. I just wish it had that option to throw my Experia data to it. Guess I need a Chromecast.
Sound 4/5
The speakers are kind of low volume, but to their credit, the sound is accurate and has a depth to it. You have to turn the volume up past 50 to start hearing talking parts, and that's kind of wierd for me, so i'm not giving full stars there. Lets be honest though, don't expect much out of a flat screen tv sound wise. If you're not pairing a flat screen with a surround sound or at least sound bar, thats your mistake, or its in a room where sound isn't an issue for you.

Price 5/5
It says it all. There is no tv with this kind of picture, this size, in this price range, Brand new. Period. Vizio owns that market.

Overall, for me its a 5/5. For everyone else, being fair, a 4/5.

Its a great set, I dont regret my purchase at all. It looks great, and sounds great. it does everything you can expect it to. It only lost that final star because the apps leave a little to be desired, the extra processing options don't do anything for me personally, and I'm being fair. They don't apply to me, so for me this set is perfect.

This set is worth more than what they're charging.

I will update any changes or if I learn more.

Any questions, just ask!

4Buy, buy, buy!
By Jesse B.
I've had this television for about a week now, and all in all, it's definitely a worthwhile purchase. But with all its pros come some cons. So let's break this package down, and take a look at why you should buy this TV if you're in the market for a thirty-two-inch, and why you should be prepared to not completely love it.

First, the pros--

1. This television's wireless. No Roku, no Chromecast, no Fire TV needed. You just open up the settings, find your network, plug in your password, and...voila. You're ready to be disappointed by the latest season of Orange is the New Black.

2. This television has a native refresh rate of one-hundred-twenty hertz, with a simulated refresh of--I think--two-forty.That's not something you see in a lot of thirty-two inch budget sets. Most sit at around sixty hertz, which is fine if you'd like to pretend you're living in 1847, but this modern America, dagnabit. I want my one-hundred-twenty hertz of smooth motion goodness, and I'm not settling for anything less. And speaking of picture quality...

3. It's 1080p. Says it right in the title, but I thought I'd remind you in case you'd forgotten already.

4. It's cheap! And I don't mean cheap in terms of build-quality. That's actually pretty good, which I'll elaborate on in my next point. No, when I say cheap, I mean most sets with these specs at this size would be going for AT LEAST a hundred dollars more. And even most of the ones sitting at THAT price range will be trading off for either 720p or sixty hertz to keep the price down. What Vizio's offering here is an amazing deal, and Amazon's sweetened the pot with an extra ten dollars off for Prime members. Even Costco isn't selling them that cheap. Then again, you can't pick up a hot dog and a drink for a dollar-fifty while you're on Amazon. Or at least, you shouldn't.

5. The build quality--it's actually pretty good.

6. The smart menu's easy to access, unobtrusive, and looks about as good as a smart menu can look.

Okay, now, on to the cons--

1. The smart menu feels a little cluttered. It's got a lot of apps most people won't need, and despite an admittedly short time playing with it, I have yet to figure out how to remove the ones I don't use.

2. For having such great specs, the picture quality on this TV doesn't blow me away the same way my fifty does or my old forty. I'm not sure why that is--maybe it's a setting I've missed--but that realism just isn't there to the same degree.

3. It's thick. Not huge, mind you, but thicker than some of its counterparts. Did this bother me? No. But for some, I know, thickness is a big factor, either for practical reasons or bragging rights. Because, you know...that's a thing, I guess.

4. There's no digital audio out. There's optical, sure, because that's the future. And there's RCA, because...that's the past? But my RS-160s are located in the present, and they operate on digital. Now, this obviously isn't a HUGE deal, since you can spend thirteen dollars to convert your optical to digital, or spent four and change on some RCA adapters, but if you use headphones or a sound system reliant on a digital audio out port, be sure you order some kind of adapter to get it working with this set right out of the box. Because apparently, RCA's still a big deal, but your headphones are a thing of the past.

In conclusion, this is an amazing deal for a great TV, and despite some very minor flaws, I'd recommend this to anyone looking to spruce up their dorm room, bedroom, office, or studio with a sleek budget television.

4So "Smart", it forgot how to TV
By HyperChicken
This TV worked great, for 2 days. Then it just started freezing after you start it and try to execute any menu commands. I called customer service (Vizio) and the troubleshooting steps verified that it was defective. No repairs or replacement options are available for this model, so they've told me I have to send them pictures proving the TV freezes (aren't all pictures frozen?) along with proof of purchase and they'll let me know what's next. I'll update the post once I learn more.

My primary mistake: I tossed the box to the TV after a couple of days of it working. If I hadn't, maybe I could have just returned it through the more friendly Amazon method :(

**Update: After awaiting a promised call from Vizio that never came, i contacted them and they instructed me to mail them the TV back for a refund . No prepaid shipping or anything. I decided to call Amazon and they were brilliant. Replaced the TV and provided return labels for the busted one!

My replacement hasn't had any issues. I suspect that my original froze when I connected it to my PC via the Plex app to use it as a media server. I didn't set that up on my replacement TV and haven't had any issues. That may not have been the cause, but I thought I'd share in case it helps anyone.

**12/2015 UPDATE**
So far, no issues with the replacement TV. I watch Hulu, Netflix, Amazon VOD, Crackle and even movies off of my USB drive (MP4 format) and haven't had any issues. Bumped the rating up to 4 stars now. Still can't give 5 because of the poor customer support from Vizio.

**12/2016 UPDATE**
Still using the TV and it works great. Someone on YouTube found a fix for my original issue, which involves resetting the TV's network card, but i haven't needed it. Really love being able to play movies off of a flash drive!

5New 90" Sharo is a .gem
By jnbwy3
Everything about this TV is fun, challenging and as advertised. It was easy to set up and the menus are intuitive. we are new to the whole smart TV concept but are learning quickly all the things it can do. Picture quality is great and the sound OK for a TV. It was a little pricey, but we wanted a 90" and there aren't many out there. We recommend it highly,

4Depends ... quite adjustable to your liking
By Nsg
I bought this TV to replace a 7 year old 50 inch Panasonic Plasma. I had three biggest criteria – largest possible screen size for my budget, 10 bit panel, and good viewing from various angles and in different lighting conditions (The TV sits in a relatively large room with lots of windows). The other two nice to haves that I was interested in were the latest formats (HDR10, Dolby Vision) and a very thin bezel. I had earlier tried a 65 inch but the fact that it was 10 inches smaller kept bothering me!

I’ve always liked the good blacks that Panasonic plasmas produce. Various reviews of LG’s IPS panels had scared me before buying this TV .. especially regarding the blacks. However, after tinkering with the set a bit, I was able to adjust Gamma and Black Level to a pretty satisfactory level. I’ve not tried an OLED, but I’m pretty happy with where the black levels have landed for this TV. The other LG/LED/IPS drawbacks pointed were backlight bleed, uneven screen brightness and dark corners. Thankfully, I have not been able to observe those on this set yet … at least not at a level where these become a concern. (I'm posting a picture of a bright image with all four sides with black bars. The bands looked pretty black with no discernible glowing/bleeding ... The slight bluish tinge on the black bars in the image is more of an iPhone camera artifact versus actually visible in reality). However, I know this type of stuff can vary quite a bit across sets even for the same model.

After some basic settings (switching off Energy Saving, Power Saving, Store Mode etc.), the TV looked gorgeous. It directly plays 4k videos from YouTube, and Dolby Vision and HDR videos from Netflix. Those of course look great, but what impressed me was the upscaling of 720p and 1080i OTA content from various network channels like NBC etc.

I can totally see why some folks will be disappointed by this TV as it offers a very wide range of settings, and until you adjust those to your liking, it may not look good. The biggest decision that you have to make is whether you want “natural” looking picture or “pop”. (Pop is mostly a function of contrast and when folks see TVs in the store .. depending upon the pop may categorize the TV as beautiful or dull). The key setting that you have to I have to play with is “Dynamic Contrast”. Enthusiasts will tell you to switch it off (along with all other artificial enhancements) since it messes with the natural look of the picture. However, if you like picture with pop, you may want to choose medium or at least low dynamic contrast versus off. Below are my settings along with some comments. (I agree with the experts around switching off various artificial enhancements … except for Dynamic Contrast since I do like the picture to pop a bit – and trust my eyes on what looks better).

Picture Mode Settings: Standard (User)
Energy Saving: Off (If not off, this will make the picture dull automatically)
Eye Comfort: Off
Backlight: 88
Contrast: 85
Brightness: 49
Sharpness: 20 (Observed that sharpness above 25 starts to introduced artifacts)
Color: 45
Tint: 0
Color Temperature: C20

Advanced Controls:
Dynamic Contrast: Medium (Can adjust to low if picture is too shiny/oversaturated. This adds pop/shine e.g. adding “make-up” to faces making them more pink, saturating colors making landscapes a bit more colorful etc. The dynamic contrast has been implemented well in this TV as it does not crush the details/shadows like some older TVs used to)
Dynamic Color: Medium (Does not have much impact … just noticed once changing maroon dress of a newsreader into brighter red)
Color Gamut: Wide
Super Resolution: Off (Supposedly it can help content less than 1080p by enhancing sharpness via some dynamic post processing but I just couldn’t tell the difference)
Gamma: High1 (This is for the darkest blacks – all other gamma options lead to more of a greyish black versus true black)

Picture Options:
Noise Reduction: Off
MPEG Noise Reduction: Off
Black Level: Low (For darkest black)
Real Cinema: On (Greyed)
Motion Eye Care: Off
LED Local Dimming: Medium
True Motion: User (De-Judder: 0; De-Blur: 10) (Hard to see the difference across various options but just followed expert opinion on avsforum etc.)

General:
Power Saving (HDD Power Saving Mode): Off
Home/Store Mode: Home Mode

Each set is different – so the above settings may not apply to you. Also, your liking may be different than mine. Furthermore, most of my normal (Network TV) watching happens via Windows Media Center with TV tuner. So my video card (AMD) may impact the source picture a bit as well, and depending upon how much pre-processing your source is doing, you may have to adjust the TV settings accordingly. Though, in general, I’ve found that these settings to work okay even if the source is my Blu-Ray player, xBox or Wii U. I do change these settings once in a while depending upon the broadcast (some shows/games are way too bright/dark/shiny … so have to tweak things accordingly)

Overall, I’m very happy with the TV. It’s joy to watch, and looks really nice on the wall. The thin bezel has a white outline which somehow makes the bezel look even more thin and sleek. The magic remote provided is pretty impressive with pointer functionality. However, I rarely use it since prefer my harmony elite given my other devices/lights and Alexa compatibility. (Though I really wish Logitech will add pointer capability to its remote … but that a review for another time). Another nice to have is Harman Kardon speakers, but I’m sure most folks use external speakers with a set of this size. It has both ARC and optical cable for sound output (I use ARC via the input HDMI to pass through sound to my 5.1 receiver).

As you can see from my posted photos, the picture from side angles looks equally good. This is important for me as many times we sit on the side couches or on the floor. Also, the room has a lot of windows – and during the day when the sun is out, I’m so glad I got rid of my Plasma .. it was practically unwatchable in daylight. Now I just hope this TV will last for a few years until OLEDs become a norm and much cheaper – so I’ve bought extended warranty via squaretrade just to be safe.

One of the cons of this TV is the absence of 3D. It’s not a deal breaker as I have a projector that I can view 3D content on (which I only do occasionally). Anyway, most brands/models this year have dropped 3D – so relatively not a disadvantage for LG. Another thing I wish this TV had is a continuous scale for Dynamic Contrast .. say 0 to 100 like many other settings. It only has Off, Low, Medium and High. The Low is too low and the Medium sometimes becomes a bit over-saturated. It would be nice to be able to do something in the middle. I am though able to compensate for this by tweaking other settings e.g. contrast, color etc. Finally, I wish the screen was slightly more anti-reflective. (I’ve heard the nano cell technology in some of the other 2017 LG models helps in this area). The reflection of room lights is visible especially in dark scenes. I had to change the set-up of my lights so that the lamps no longer face the TV (I switch off the fan light and instead use light fixtures). The other couple of cons are more relative versus competition e.g. this TV is heavier than its counterparts from Samsung, and finally it will be unfair to not mention that OLED TVs are supposedly better in Color Rendition / Accuracy, Black Level/Contrast and Screen Uniformity ... but you have to pay quite a bit more for the ‘upgrade’ which I do not know if it’s worth it.

3Nice TV, but overpriced and small annoyances.
By Matt
I recently received the 55" MU8000 TV, and it's definitely a big step up from the KU6300 I previously had in every way. However, there are some issues that should be brought up.

Pros:
- Excellent blacks. Provides a very deep black picture.
- Vivid colors, but it could be a bit better with its 10 bit panel.
- No lightbleed at all.
- Native 120Hz refresh rate / Full 24p playback.
- Very nice build quality. Extremely thin bezel around the panel.
- 4x HDMI 2.0 ports, and each support HDR.
- Normal and UltraHD Blu-ray movies look very, very nice.
- Very low input lag, which is great for gaming.
- Motion handling is very good.
- Excellent upscaling, especially from 1080p content.
- Cable management on the back is a nice addition.
- Personally, I've really liked the remotes Samsung uses, but I can see others not enjoying its simplicity. Voice control works well.
- I don't use the stands which are provided, but they're of very high quality.

Neutral:
- Edge-lit display. Other brands are using full array back lighting at the same price or less.
- I've noticed some very slight blooming, but it's only when the screen is black and a white logo/image appears.
- The "One Connect Box" is kind of annoying. Takes up more space and requires another long cable. It works fine, but I'd rather have all ports on the TV itself.
- Mounting the TV on the wall or a TV stand with a bracket can be problematic due to the shape on the rear of the TV. Does not include proper M8 screws, so be sure to measure beforehand. You must use the included standoffs. Be careful and plan ahead if you count on mounting this TV.
- Be sure to plug in the power and One Connect Box cables in to the TV before mounting or fitting the TV in to a tight space. Their locations (center-bottom) are nearly impossible to reach if you mount it beforehand.
- At this time, the Tizen OS can be quite laggy when navigating.
- Moving the "Game Mode" setting to "External Devices," rather than "Picture Settings" of the past causes a waste of time. On past Samsung TV's, it was quick and easy to switch between picture modes. Though using Voice Control helps in this situation.

Cons:
- Samsung claims the panel is HDR 1000 compatible (1000+ nits brightness), but in reality, it's less than 500 nits. Therefore, it's best to watch in a dimly lit room or in the dark.
- HDR isn't all that great on this panel, mostly due to its subpar wide color gamut.
- Very poor gradients are displayed at times, primarily when using Game Mode.
- Reflections are quite bad on this set.
- Poor viewing angles.
- For what you get, picture and feature-wise, it's an expensive TV. Especially when other brands are using superior panels and technology at the same cost or less.
- Hope that you don't have to ever deal with Samsung's TV customer support. Long story short: it's the worst support experience I've ever dealt with.

Conclusion:
Even though the MU8000 provides a very nice overall picture and excellent build quality, there are a couple of areas where Samsung basically used false advertising. If you can find last year's KS8000 series ($1,000 now for the 55"), then definitely purchase that over the MU8000. It fully supports HDR 1000 and provides a much wider color gamut. The new Sony 900E series is also a much better option, picture-wise, and it's the same price as the MU8000. I simply feel that $1,500 is too much money for what this model claims to provide, but doesn't afterall. However, it is a nice package for the most part.

5A great TV with a phenomenally good remote.
By Amazon Customer
I've had this TV for a couple of months now. It is awesome,
Picture clarity is exceptional. The darks are extremely dark.
Of course, it's best with 4K content (which I can find on Netflix).
But even regular HD content looks gorgeous.
The SmartHub is very fast; it comes up instantaneously, and the apps load quickly.
It comes with everything you may want - Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, HBO and many others for video; Pandora, Spotify, iHeartRadio and others for music. It even comes with a pretty decent Web browser, I was able to log into the Cliburn competition and watch a lot of it through the browser, with no problems and no latency at all.
The built-in speakers are pretty decent, but I had it installed with a Sonos soundbar system.
It is big, but not overwhelmingly so - I had it installed above a fireplace, and it fills the space but does not dominate it. It is very thin for its size, and surprisingly not that heavy (I could lift it myself).
Finally, I absolutely LOVE the remote. It is ergonomics exemplified! Fits very nicely in hand, has ingeniously simple controls, every button is distinct, with its own feel. It is really exceptionally well designed. Bravo to Samsung - it is one of the best electronic products overall I ever used, ever.
I only have two complaints about the TV. One, it does NOT have a plug for headphones. How can a TV with all these features not have a simple little plug? I couldn't believe it. I had to buy a special gizmo (MPOW, which is a GREAT product - I reviewed it separately) to connect my Bose headphones to the Bluetooth output (the only option). Minor complaint two, sometimes the apps get "stuck." A couple of times I turned off the TV while Netflix or Amazon was running, and when I turned it back on, it was not responsive to any other buttons on the remote (just on and off). I had to unplug it to "reboot," then it was fine again. It only happened a couple of times.
So overall, I would buy it again, it's just awesome.

5I had purchased the wall mount service from Amazon itself and I was extremely happy with the quality of service
By RahulC
I made this purchase after much deliberation. I had short listed this product and the Samsung curved, price wise I believe there was just a $100 difference (Sony being higher). Being a old fan of the Sony brand, I was little biased towards this brand. The product took about 2 weeks for delivery, was delivered & installed on the TV stand by the same people who delivered. Very professional service.

I had purchased the wall mount service from Amazon itself and I was extremely happy with the quality of service. The technician came right the next day, did the installation in about an hour. Was little bummed when I came to know that Comcast doesn't yet stream in 4K. But in comparison to my old Phillips (10 year old 35 inch) obviously the picture quality & overall experience is stunning.

I have an Sony google TV and the setup took less than 15 min to complete.

One issue that I noticed is that the Sony TV remote guide although display the TV guide, it is not changing the channels. I am still researching, it is possible the way my setup is.

I will post some more reviews in a while to share my experience.

WOW! What a TV, it's like having an IMAX in your living room! I purchased from another vendor due to better pricing but let me say this TV upscaling is great while watching 1080p content and the 4K UHD is out of this world!

3Great picture, BUT.

None of the technical jargon others go into, just a regular guy's thoughts and opinions. Great picture, BUT... looking at TV straight away is perfection but as you sit to an angle moving left or right, the further you move away from center shows clouding which is a real turn off for such a nice and pricey set. If you have no other family or guest watching, it's great at dead center. I bought the 65" and it was a really big jump from my 52" Sony KDL52XBR4 Bravia. This IS a very bright TV if you are upgrading from a 6-8 year old set. It's almost like a flashlight staring at you. There are some settings that tone it down... but be prepared. Just like when HD came out, there wasn't a lot of inventory to watch, same with 4k. I was able to find 4k with YouTube and 4k is excellent! As far as up-scaling... Five Stars. my Comcast cable is upgraded about 20% to a super nice sharp picture. I also have an antenna that has an excellent pure clean HD picture now. BluRay player also has also been great at up-scaling my regular home-made DVD's If not for the clouding I would give it a 5 Star. I ended up returning because of the clouding at angle which made the TV useless (to me) for viewing and also the Super Nova brightness I just couldn't take.
